Everyone deserves a clear direction forward.
Psychological testing in Redding, California
At TrueNorth Assessments, my goal is to help you make sense of your strengths and challenges so you can move ahead with clarity, confidence, and the right supports.
You might be here because…
Something about yourself hasn’t fully made sense. Maybe it’s difficulty focusing or feeling different from others. Maybe it’s questions about why you feel or behave a certain way.
If that sounds familiar, you’re in the right place. You’ll leave not only with answers, but with a clearer understanding of why and what actually helps moving forward.
An assessment may be a good fit if…
You’ve wondered about ADHD or autism.
You feel capable in many areas but still struggle with focus, organization, or navigating certain social situations.
You’ve received unclear or incomplete answers.
You want a deeper understanding and not just a diagnosis.
The TrueNorth Approach
Individualized
This isn’t a one-size fits all evaluation. I take time to understand your full story so results feel accurate and meaningful, with personalized, research-based recommendations, strategies, and supports.
Inclusive
I am neurodiversity-affirming. I respect individual differences and consider the broader context of your identity, background, and experiences.
Intentional
I am collaborative, transparent, and strengths-based. I take the time to explain every step of the process. We won’t only discuss your struggles; we’ll also discover where you thrive.
Types of Assessments
I provide psychological testing for children, adolescents, and adults.
Comprehensive Psychological & Diagnostic Evaluations
Assess emotional and behavioral concerns such as depression, anxiety, trauma, and personality patterns, especially when questions are complex or overlapping.
Autism Evaluations
Clarify social, communication, and behavioral patterns related to autism, with a focus on understanding each person’s unique way of experiencing and navigating the world.
ADHD & Executive Function Evaluations
Evaluate attention, concentration, and executive functioning (things like planning, organizing, and starting tasks) and understand how these impact daily life.
Not sure what type of evaluation is the best fit? I’m happy to help you decide during a free consultation.
What to Expect
Most people find the process more comfortable and collaborative than they were anticipating.
-
Most testing sessions last 3 to 4 hours, so you’re encouraged to bring snacks and a drink. For children, bringing a favorite activity or comfort item can also be helpful.
-
We’ll begin by discussing background history such as family, medical, school, and work experiences to better understand what’s going on. For children, this typically includes both caregiver and child together at the start.
-
Next, I will meet individually with you (or your child) to complete standardized assessments. Depending on the questions you’d like answered, testing may include measures of:
Cognitive ability (including intellectual disability or giftedness)
Autism-related differences
Attention and executive functioning (ADHD)
Emotional, behavioral, and personality patterns
Trauma-related concerns
Questionnaires may also be given to you or your child, and sometimes to someone else who knows you or your child well with your permission.
-
Sometimes additional context is helpful, such as reviewing records, talking with someone who knows you/your child, or conducting an observation. We’ll decide together if this is needed.
-
After the in-person appointment, I’ll write a comprehensive report that explains the results in clear, understandable language and includes practical recommendations.
-
Finally, we’ll schedule a feedback session. We will review the results together, discuss diagnoses if applicable, and focus on clear, meaningful next steps. You’ll leave with both a verbal explanation and a written report to guide you forward.

Not much! It can be helpful to jot down things you’ve noticed about yourself or your child that you’ve wondered about. Gathering medical and school records for review is also helpful. Most people find the process more collaborative and comfortable than they expected. The most important thing is to come as your authentic self.
-
The cost of testing depends on the specific questions we’re working to answer together. Most assessments take between 6 to 12 hours, billed at $250/hour. The time includes the interview, testing, scoring, interpretation, report writing, and feedback. During a free consultation, I’ll provide a personalized cost estimate so you know what to expect.

While TrueNorth is not an in-network provider with insurance, clients may be able to get partial reimbursement using a superbill (an itemized receipt). Payment is required at the time of the appointment, and any reimbursement would be handled directly with your insurance provider.
Some helpful questions to ask your insurance company:
What are my out-of-network benefits for psychological testing?
What percentage of the cost is covered for out-of-network providers and at what rate?
What is my out-of-network deductible, and how much has been met?
Is preauthorization required for psychological testing?
How do I submit an out-of-network claim?
Still have questions?
